In telematic performances, audio, video and, in some cases, other types of data, are sent from one location to the other – and vice versa. In this chapter, we are going to introduce some basic principles for streaming such data. This might help users make the right choices and may also help with trouble shooting issues.
2.1 Audio Processing
What happens if an analogue signal is converted to a digital signal? And what are the components of this conversion, like samplerate, bitrate, blocksize, or compression?
2.2 Audio Transmission
Which protocols are used for the transmission of audio? What are the transmission topologies of the involved network?
2.3 Audio Playback and Quality
What happens if the audio signal is played back at the remote location? How can transmission quality be influenced?
