On the 29th of January 2019, we invited some ZHdK music teachers and students into a minimal telematic setup for a 1:1 remote teaching situation. We tried different scenarios, one teacher and student team with telematic experience – who have also played together before – and one another team with no experience who also didn’t know themselves beforehand.
Both situations worked out astonishingly well, the teachers have been able to get to the students in real time and there have been teaching results within a 10min session. Of course there’s still limits to the interaction and a certain time delay can never be fully overcome. But it’s certainly a more immersive approach than just a skype Setup on a laptop screen.
