«Zone» is a telemersive prototype in which the «Spatial Dis/Continuities in Telematic Performances» research group presents their current state of development in real-time transmission of volumetric camera data and 3D spatial audio.

Where exactly the «Zone» runs and how it came into being is still a matter of disagreement among scholars. What is clear is that the Zone is a fracture of our reality, and in it a world beyond our logic is revealed. Some say that the Zone holds the key to the fulfilment of our deepest desires. The research project «Spatial Dis/Continuities in Telematic Performances» is actually developing technologies for simultaneous performances. During an experiment at the telemersive gateway, they suddenly made contact with the Zone: Steffi appeared.
At the Refresh Festival we open the gateway into the zone for an audience. In a 20-minute 1 to 1 encounter, you will meet Steffi. She will guide you through the Zone: A glitch? An anomaly? A singularity?
The piece is based on the novel «Roadside Picnic» by the Strugazky brothers, which served as a template for the film «Stalker» by Andrei Tarkowski.
