2021 · Dortmund and Zurich
During a research fellowship at the Academy for Theatre and Digitality in Dortmund, we investigated how two geographically separated stages can become one shared performance environment.
The setup connected Dortmund and Zurich through live video and low-latency audio. Projection surfaces, mobile displays, carefully positioned cameras and spatial sound were treated as scenographic elements rather than simply as transmission tools. The aim was to let remote performers appear inside the local stage image and to create a continuous theatrical space across both locations.
The research included the practical development of the audio and video infrastructure, the arrangement of screens and tablets, the coordination of camera perspectives and the software required for real-time transmission.
The residency culminated in Through the Looking Glass, a telemersive performance between the Academy for Theatre and Digitality in Dortmund and Zurich on 25 May 2021.
